Sketch crit today- as usual, nothing is resolved or finalised on paper and I turned up late and had minor meltdown (complete with suicide fantasies) on way to school. Reminded me of being fifteen.

Still not really sure how I'm going to pull through this with a) a respectable grade and b) a respectable portfolio of work, quite terrifying. Doesn't seem right that my only consolation is that soon it will be over...

design development distractions - nightwaves

I can't listen to music when I'm working. I find it too distracting. Trust: I have crossed genres, traversed eras and continents trying to fill the void of silence, but music is not the one. I live in a flat in a Victorian terrace with very thin walls, and without something in the background there is an annoying undercurrent of other people's televisions, conversations and music...

So I have the radio on- speech, no music. And no adverts. This restricts my options to the World Service and Radio 4. I cannot work at home without it.

Why am I blogging this? I think because I have something to share and wanted to first set the scene. The radio is usually for background noise blocking- a electromagnetic acoustic intervention I need not heed. But sometimes- sometimes- my ears prick up to something genuinely interesting.

This week an interview with two leading architects, Norman Foster and David Chipperfield. Both have very interesting remarks to make about sense of place, and about working abroad. I've included the link below but I'm not sure how long it'll be up on iplayer so try to make the most of it.

It's supposed to be a nice walkway along the newly flooded Belvedere Road. On the basis that Queen's Walk is more popular as a pedestrian thoroughfare owing to its proximity to the Thames I thought I'd make Belvedere Road more popular. It also accommodates the large quantities of run off from my mainly hardscaped site. Quite why I felt it necessary to have a walkway running through it I'll never know... seemed like a good idea at the time, though.


Ha. Here's a story that may make you laugh. I wanted to have a bit more interest in my human scale/ entourage elements so went through some photographs from some of the parties I used to host at the Station House. Found a nice image of my ex in an embrace with my friend Giovanni... probably doesn't mean anything and it's been a few years now so not worth getting worked up over. May as well flip horizontally, reduce the opacity and drop in the photo montage!
